If you are new to farming then you will understand what a great experience it can provide you with. There is just something so satisfying about being able to grow your own crops and you may even find that keeping your own animals is a great experience as well. A lot of people however, don’t realise that looking after a farm can come with its fair share of hazards, and if you are not aware of these then you may be putting yourself and your family at risk on a daily basis.

Hazards

There are a couple of hazards that you will face when working on your farm. There are chemical hazards and this includes pesticides, fertilisers and even herbicides. These are dangerous to apply and you may even be harming wildlife when you put them down as well, so you have to make sure that you are doing everything you can to wear the right safety equipment at all times. Natural hazards include dangerous wildlife, abandoned mines nearby and even manmade hazards.

Emergency Communication

If something was to happen then you need to make sure that you have a good level of communication in place. You also need to know where your local responders are and to also have the emergency contact details of every family member on-hand as well. After all, most farms are a bit out of the way and they can be hard for emergency services to get to, so it helps to have everyone on the same page so that when something does happen, you can feel really confident knowing that you have people there to help.

Equipment

If you are thinking about buying a Chinese tractor then this can be a very exciting experience. You may get wrapped up in choosing your colour and even your model as well. The one thing that a lot of people overlook on the other hand is equipment maintenance. If you don’t maintain your equipment on a regular basis then this can cause you to experience a serious injury. You may find that bolts fall out, things overheat and so much more. It is more than possible for you to avoid all of this by simply doing the right maintenance checks on your machinery every single month. If you see that something is wearing out then you need to replace it.

Livestock

If your livestock happens to develop a virus or even a bacterial infection then you need to deal with this in the best possible way. If you have antibiotics or anything that can be used to try and fight off an infection then you need to keep these out of the reach of your family and you also need to make sure that you consult the help of a vet as well. If you happen to get a certain strain of bacteria on your hands then this could cause you real problems and you may even find that you come down with an illness yourself. Hygiene is crucial on a farm, especially when you work with livestock.
